Amid COVID-19 crisis in Japan, an investigation into abuse of disabled people at a care home and site of mass murder is dismissed

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, the investigation into abuse of people with disabilities at a facility in Kanagawa prefecture is about to be dismissed. New suspicions of abuse emerged last autumn regarding the “Tsukui Yamayurien” facility in Sagamihara City, in Kanagawa Prefecture, which became a stage of mass murder four years ago. The prefecture suddenly announced on May 18 that it would stop verifying cases of abuse, and some are skeptical.

What is a ‘Barrier Free Mind’?

The government newly presented measures for not only hard aspects but also soft aspects with the revision of the law for 18 years, and announced the promotion of “barrier-free mind”. It encourages municipalities to create and provide barrier-free maps that show the location of slopes and toilets for people with disabilities in the city, and requests business operators to train staff.

Nagasaki group to donate unwanted ‘Abe masks’ to disability facilities

A group of women in Higashisonogawa, Kawatana “Wahaha de Mina” (representative Naoko Fujita) has called on people to donate unwanted cloth masks distributed by the government to all households to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection. For up to 30 days, collection boxes will be installed at convenience stores in the town. The collected masks are handed over to the disabled facilities in the town.

Both Houses of Japanese Diet to investigate how the Eugenic Protection Law was enacted, making forced sterilization possible

The former eugenics protection law was enacted unanimously by legislators. For this reason, the victims of forced infertility have requested that the legislative body that created the law be responsible for verifying it.
