914 forced sterilization disabled victims newly identified in Japan
“More than 900 victims of forced sterilizations have been newly identified in 11 prefectures under the postwar Eugenic Protection Law, according to the latest Asahi Shimbun survey.
The additional records and documents found between mid-May and mid-March list 914 names of men and women in 11 prefectures, bringing the total to 4,773 in 29 prefectures.”

Disabled people in Sendai hold protest demonstrations over forced sterilization
“Participants came from the Hokkaido area right down to Okinawa Prefecture with banners reading “Where is the country’s apologies to victims of forced sterilization surgery!” While raising banners with the text “I want to decide whether to give birth or not myself”, they marched for about 1 hour around Miyagi prefectural office and downtown area.”

Nagoya castle to have no elevator for the disabled after restoration to keep ‘fidelity to history’
“The current tower has elevators, and Mayor Takashi Kawamura’s fidelity to history has triggered a backlash from the public, with citizens’ groups saying the project goes against building a barrier-free society.
The city has said it plans to introduce an alternative to elevators using “new technologies” but hasn’t stated what this means.”
