On July 31st, Gunma Prefecture announced that three employees and three users of a welfare service center for the disabled in the jurisdiction of the Isesaki Public Health Center had been confirmed to have been infected with the new coronavirus on the same day.

July 26th 2021 marks the five year anniversary of what is now often referred to as the ‘Sagamihara Stabbings’, when in the early hours of July 26th 2016, Satoshi Uematsu, a former employee of the ‘Tsukui Yamayuri En’ or ‘Tsukui Lily Garden’ care home for people with disabilites, killed 19 residents with disabilites and injured at least 26 others.
Members of the All Japan Council for the Visually Impaired, a group of visually impaired people, have inspected the dangers of JR Ochanomizu Station (Chiyoda Ward) and Yoyogi Station (Shibuya Ward), both of which have steps on the platform. At Ochanomizu Station, which does not have a platform door, they believe that people could fall off the platform.
