More than 60% of patients found to be infected with the novel coronavirus while in psychiatric hospitals in Japan could not be transferred to other medical facilities designated for COVID-19 cases, as general hospitals apparently tend to refuse them due to the perception that they are difficult to deal with, a survey has revealed.
During a “GM21 Meeting” between the prefectural governor of Saga and mayors of 20 municipalities within the prefecture on Jan. 26, Kanzaki Mayor Shigeyuki Matsumoto, 70, remarked, “If the cause can be ascertained, children who don’t end up that way (with developmental disabilities) may be able to spend their whole lives happily as abled people.”
Noting that Kumazawa was almost unharmed, while Eiichiro had more than 36 wounds on his body, the prosecutors said that the defendant “caught off Eiichiro’s guard and one-sidedly attacked him with strong murderous intent.”
The judge acknowledged Kumazawa had previously met his son’s doctor and delivered medication for his son’s development disorder and made efforts to build a stable father-and-son relationship.
Public prosecutors sought a prison term of eight years on Friday for a former Japanese vice agriculture minister for killing his 44-year-old son at his home in Tokyo in June, pointing to his “one-sided” attack with a “strong murderous intent.”
“The son, unemployed for 11 years, had difficulty communicating with others due to a developmental disorder. He had been violent at home since his school days.”
