An independent committee established with the approval of the city of Kobe recently compiled and released a report on the Rokko Tsurujuen, a social welfare corporation in Nada Ward, Kobe City, which has been found to have provided inappropriate care to the elderly and whose employees complained of power harassment.

Fukuoka man, 73, arrested for obscenity after allegedly touching developmentally disabled high school girl

The man is suspected of touching her body from the top of her clothes when a high school girl (16) was in a state of confusion at around 4 pm on May 31 in an apartment in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. She denies the charges, saying “she doesn’t remember.” The high school girl has a developmental disability and she had little awareness of what she was doing.

Kanagawa prefectural government reveals cases of abuse at care home for people with disabilities, residents locked in rooms and tied to wheelchairs for eight hours

According to the Kanagawa prefectural government, in February of this year, it was confirmed that twenty-two users of the Nakai Yamayurien facility for the disabled were physically restrained for more than eight hours, including being kept in locked rooms and tied to wheelchairs.

Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare publishes analysis of statistics regarding abuse of people with disabilities for last five years

The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) analyzed the number of cases of abuse of people with disabilities for the past five years through fiscal year 2019 for the first time. The national average rate of recognition of abuse by employees of facilities for the disabled is 20%, with Miyazaki having the highest rate at 32%. The lowest rate was 6% in both Ibaraki and Gifu, a difference of 26 percentage points.
