Over a period of more than three months, a male JR station attendant in Tokyo repeatedly made sexual comments such as “Are your breasts heavy?” to a visually impaired woman who asked him to guide her. JR East is considering disciplinary action against the station staff member.
Japanese firms have been using proxy agencies to employ disabled people, hiring them to work for unrelated farming schemes in a move seen as a way to fulfill official disability quotas, a welfare ministry probe and a Kyodo News investigation found.
According to the corporation’s investigation, in the lock-in incident, a staff member took one of the residents to his room, locked the door and prevented him from leaving for approximately four hours. The staff member is said to have explained that he was trying to protect other users because they had become violent inside the facility,
The “Hiroshima Abilympics” has been held since 2003 by Hiroshima Prefecture and other organizations to promote employment of people with disabilities. 51 people, including students from special needs schools and people working at companies in the prefecture, participated in the event on the 7th.
In the space of a week, Shimane prefecture reported two sets of clusters at care homes for children, the elderly and people with disabilities. Five clusters were confirmed on December 24 & three more on December 31st.

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has established appropriate facilities and equipment such as barrier-free toilets, parking facilities for wheelchair users, elevators in passenger facilities, and priority seats in vehicles so that those who “truly need them” can use them when they need them. The Ministry states that it will carry out a campaign to promote the use of these facilities and promote “barrier-free minds.”
Police on Nov. 3 arrested an 81-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his wife, 79, by pushing her into the sea while she was in her wheelchair.
