Prosecutors on Friday indicted a man on charges of murder and violating the firearms control law for fatally shooting former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during an election campaign in the western Japan city of Nara in July.

According to the corporation’s investigation, in the lock-in incident, a staff member took one of the residents to his room, locked the door and prevented him from leaving for approximately four hours. Nara public prosecutors began the psychiatric evaluation on July 25 that year. The evaluation period was initially slated to last for four months through Nov. 29, but it was extended following a request from the prosecutors.

The “Hiroshima Abilympics” has been held since 2003 by Hiroshima Prefecture and other organizations to promote employment of people with disabilities. 51 people, including students from special needs schools and people working at companies in the prefecture, participated in the event on the 7th.
