Hokkaido Care Home Staff Arrested for Unauthorized ATM Withdrawals from Disabled Residents Bank Accounts

“Kazuhiro Miwa was arrested on the grounds that on Tuesday December 19th 2017 at around 8:30am that Miwa used a residents cash card to withdraw cash of 280,000 yen without the residents permission from an ATM at Japan Railway station.”

3198 instances of abuse of disabled persons in Japan reported for FY2016

“The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on 27th that 3198 persons with disabilities were abused in 2016. Although the amount decreased slightly in comparison with FY 2003, which was the highest since the start of the survey in FY 2000, abuse by officials of persons with disabilities sharply increased by 18% compared to the previous year and number of cases and number of victims, the largest number ever updated for four consecutive years.”


0.2% of Japan’s 47 prefectural assemblies and 20 cabinet city council are disabled persons

“The Mainichi Shimbun surveyed the number of local councilors with disabilities at the 47 prefectural parliaments and 20 cabinet city councils and found out that there were 7 wheelchair users and there was 1 blind person. Regarding the number of parliamentarians of persons with disabilities, there is no official data, and it is possible that some lawmakers have internal disabilities, but seems that the advancement of the disabled to parliament is extremely limited.”
