Kyodo News conducted a survey of people with intellectual disabilities and their families nationwide regarding the problem of people with intellectual disabilities being sterilized or treated at a group home in Hokkaido, it was found on February 26 that approximately one in five (19%) people in their 20s or older have experienced opposition or restrictions from those around them regarding love, marriage or childbirth.

At approximately 6PM on September 25th, 2007, 25-year-old Kenta Yasunaga was cycling home from a workshop he regularly attended in Saga Prefecture, southwestern Japan, when police officers attempted to stop him, believing him to be acting suspiciously.
However, Kenta Yasunaga had difficulties in communicating due to his autism. Kenta Yasunaga would later die at the hospital to which he was taken and his cause of death was found to be acute cardiac arrest.

The proportion of people in Japan who recognized discrimination or prejudice against those with disabilities rose 4.6 percentage points to 88.5 pct in 2022 from 2017, a survey by the Cabinet Office showed Tuesday.

The prefecture is calling for action, such as considering amendments to the ‘Act for the Elimination of Disability Discrimination’, on the grounds that this may be in violation of the Act.

2021年に障害者差別解消法が改正され、昨年は内閣府障害者政策委員会で基本方針の改定作業が行われ、まもなく閣議決定されて確定する見込みです。そして今年の4月からは、いよいよ中央省庁の対応指針の改定が始まります。
DPIでは差別解消法プロジェクトチームを立ち上げ、中央省庁に意見提案を行います。2016年の障害者差別解消法施行以降に、どんな差別が起こっているのか事例を集め、事例をもとに提案書を作成して、働きかけを行いたいと考えています。
そこで「差別を受けた」「嫌な思いをした」という差別事例、また「こういう対応をしてもらえて助かった！」という好事例を大募集します。

According to the department, around 80% of the consultations are about dissatisfaction with their lives and families. Less than 20% of the consultations were about problems that required a proactive response from the prefecture. Cases of unfair discrimination on the basis of disability and complaints that ‘reasonable consideration’ is not given to remove barriers in daily life and in the use of services are among the most common.
