“I hated paper books. I hated the machismo of the traditional reading culture, which requires five physical abilities–the ability to see, the ability to hold a book, the ability to turn pages, the ability to maintain a reading posture and the ability to freely go to bookstores to buy books. I hated the ignorant arrogance of book lovers who are not aware of their privilege of being able to read paper books.”
The former director of a facility (87) for the disabled in Nishi Ward, Sakai City, was arrested and indicted for quasi-forced indecency.

The man in his 90s and the woman in her 80s were found collapsed on their bed by a carer who visited their home in the western Tokyo area of Higashimurayama. The carer called emergency services around 5:45 p.m. and police officers confirmed the deaths.
In an effort to make people with disabilities aware of the reality of their situation, the Japan Council on Disability (Tokyo) has published an encyclopedia that explains issues such as “support for children with disabilities” and “disasters and people with disabilities” in addition to laws and terminology. The encyclopedia was written not only by academics, but also by people with disabilities and their supporters to reflect their perspectives on the frontlines.
