A safe-to-swallow oral care product developed by a Japanese startup and manufactured by people with mental disabilities has been selected as a candidate for use by astronauts at the International Space Station.
The Nagasaki Labor Bureau has summarized the employment situation of persons with disabilities in the prefecture (as of June 1, last year). In private companies, the actual employment rate, which indicates the ratio of persons with disabilities to employees, increased by 0.07 points from the previous year to 2.61%, the highest ever since the start of aggregation in 1977.
As the spread of the new coronavirus spreads the impact on employment, the number of people with disabilities who have been dismissed from companies has risen to about 1,200 in the six months to September, an increase of about 40% compared to the same period last year, according to the summary by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Between February and June this year, the number of persons with disabilities who had been dismissed from companies was 1,104, an increase of 152 (16.0%) compared to the same period last year, according to a summary by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare by August 4th. The number of people with depression and other psychological disorders recognized as work-related in Japan in fiscal 2019 rose 44 from the previous year to 509, hitting a new high, the welfare ministry said Friday 26 June.
The health ministry said Friday it will encourage more companies to promote telework and staggered working hours as part of efforts to prevent further spread of the new coronavirus in Japan.
There are more than 460,000 persons with disabilities working in private companies across the Japan where employment of persons with disabilities is required, and this is the highest ever, while approximately 30% of companies do not employ any persons with disabilities, a survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has shown.
