TOKYO – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched a subsidy program to help nursing care and disability welfare service providers support employees balancing work with childcare and family caregiving, the metropolitan government said October 16.

The program provides additional funding on top of national subsidies to cover costs including hiring replacement staff when employees take childcare or family care leave, and paying allowances to colleagues who take over their duties.

Eligible small and medium-sized corporations operating nursing care or disability welfare service facilities can receive up to 2.3 million yen per employee for replacement staff costs during childcare or family care leave, depending on the employment period. Additional subsidies are also available for recruitment advertising and workplace improvements.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 15, 2027, with eligible expenses covered retroactively from April 1, 2026, the metropolitan government said.
