SAITAMA – A man who represents a company operating child development support and after-school day service programs has been arrested on suspicion of inflating the number of times users attended and fraudulently obtaining approximately 8.81 million yen from Higashimatsuyama City, including disability child day-care benefits.
The suspect, Yusuke Kawai (43), a company representative engaged in disability child day-care support services and residing in Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of fraud.
According to police, from June 2020 to April two years ago, Kawai allegedly falsified attendance records on 45 occasions for two child users at a facility he operated in Higashimatsuyama City, and is suspected of defrauding the city of about 8.81 million yen, including disability child day-care benefits.
During questioning, Kawai reportedly admitted to the allegations, stating, “As the company’s management was deteriorating, I wanted money for personal use.”
