(Update) 656 Disabled Abused in the Workplace in FY2022

By types of abuse, 600 people suffered financial abuse, an increase of 180 from the previous year. Psychological abuse such as verbal abuse and discrimination occurred in 47 cases, followed by physical abuse such as assault in 24 cases. If more than one type of abuse is recognized for an individual, each is accounted for separately.

In terms of specific damage, there were cases where people were paid less than the local minimum wage, and cases where people suffered burns when a gas burner was pressed against their arms.

A man accused of carrying out a deadly arson attack on a Kyoto Animation Co. studio four years ago admitted the charges in the indictment, in the first hearing of his trial at Kyoto District Court on Tuesday.

“I didn’t imagine that so many people would lose their lives, and I now think that I went too far,” Shinji Aoba, 45, said at the outset of the lay judge trial, admitting that he carried out the attack.
