1,854 Welfare Facilities Deal with Damage Following Kumamoto Earthquake, 3,200 evacuated

Twenty-four days after the Kumamoto Earthquake, the number of welfare facilities reported to have suffered damage had risen to 1,854, according to figures reported as of August 19. The damage included cracked walls, power outages and disruptions to water supplies.

KUMAMOTO – Twenty-four days after the Kumamoto Earthquake, the number of welfare facilities reported to have suffered damage had risen to 1,854, according to figures reported as of August 19. The damage included cracked walls, power outages and disruptions to water supplies.

The affected facilities included 992 facilities serving older people, 363 disability welfare facilities, 496 child welfare facilities and three relief facilities.

The Fukushi Shimbun reported on August 22 that 80 evacuation centers had been established across 11 municipalities in Kumamoto Prefecture, providing shelter to approximately 3,200 people.
