TOKYO – A former instructor at a support organization has been arrested on suspicion of committing indecent acts against a woman with a developmental disability during a class. He partially denies the allegations, but reportedly said, “I did it to satisfy my sexual desires.”

Masaki Shigetome, a former instructor at the youth support organization “Tokyo YMCA,” is suspected of committing indecent acts in 2023 against a woman in her 20s with a developmental disability at one of the organization’s facilities in Tokyo.

Shigetome held qualifications as a certified public psychologist and clinical psychologist, and at the time was working as an instructor for a support program aimed at people with disabilities. It is alleged that he committed the acts while alone with the female student during a lesson.

The incident came to light after the woman returned home and told her parents things such as, “The teacher told me we were practicing how to make a baby.”

According to investigators, Shigetome stated, “I did it to satisfy my sexual desires,” although he is said to be partially denying the charges.
