KOCHI – It has been revealed that a resident at a welfare facility for persons with disabilities in Kōchi Prefecture has died.
Following an investigation, four types of abuse, including physical and sexual abuse, were confirmed, and the prefectural government is considering administrative sanctions.
According to the Kōchi Prefectural Government, the death occurred at around 7:00 p.m. on January 9 this year at a welfare facility for persons with disabilities in the prefecture.
The sequence of events following the incident is as follows:
January 10: The facility director reported the case to the prefectural government
January 13: The facility reported the case to the municipality responsible for benefit decisions January 30: The prefecture conducted an on-site inspection under the Comprehensive Support Act for Persons with Disabilities
January 30, February 10, February 12: Municipal authorities conducted investigations on suspicion of abuse
March 23: The municipality concluded that abuse had occurred and reported this to the prefecture
March 27: The prefecture carried out an audit of the facility
The municipality identified the following four types of abuse:
Physical abuse Sexual abuse Psychological abuse Neglect
Regarding future action, the prefectural government is considering administrative penalties based on the results of the March 27 audit.
The prefecture has not disclosed the name of the facility or the municipality at this time, citing concerns that individuals involved could be identified.
However, it stated that the facility’s name and other details will be made public if administrative sanctions are formally imposed.
