ALS Assisted Dying Disability Japan

“Once again – I haven’t heard from you -” writes the late Yuri Hayashi, ALS patient

It seems Hayashi's PC stopped working after her post on July 10 2018, for "almost a month". On August 25 2018, she posts again. In this post, Hayashi seems to have put her plans to die in Switzerland - which she calls "the theme of this blog" - on pause for the time being.

It was reported on Thursday 24 July 2020, that two doctors were arrested by the Kyoto Prefectural Police for allegedly murdering a woman who had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, at the patient’s request.

The deceased, a woman aged 51 named Yuri Hayashi, ran a blog and a Twitter account.

It seems Hayashi’s PC stopped working after her post on July 10 2018, for “almost a month“.

On August 25 2018, she posts again. In this post, Hayashi seems to have put her plans to die in Switzerland – which she calls “the theme of this blog” – on pause for the time being:

So, let’s take a break from the challenge of being euthanized in Switzerland, which is the theme of this blog. (I haven’t given up.)”

However, Hayashi still writes about how she “would like to continue contributing to the realization of an euthanasia law…” and that she would “like to think of ways to raise the level of discussion in society.

“It has been a while since the PC broke for about a month.

Also thank you! !!

In the last few months, news about ALS-related treatments and new drugs has been published one after another.

The clinical trial may start next year.

So, let’s take a break from the challenge of being euthanized in Switzerland, which is the theme of this blog. (I haven’t given up).

I want to see what happens next year. It’s been seven years so far.

But I would like to continue contributing to the realization of the euthanasia law.

I think it’s best to make an established fact, but please give me some time.

During this time, I would like to think of ways to raise the level of discussion in society.

Anything is fine so please let us know if you have an idea!”
