Two Hokkaido Disability Support Facility Workers Arrested; Three Other Staff Members Voluntarily Questioned

Two male employees accused of assaulting residents at a disability support facility in Kushiro, Hokkaido were arrested, it has emerged that several other staff members have also been voluntarily questioned by police.

Kushiro, Hokkaido – In a case involving the arrest of two male employees accused of assaulting residents at a disability support facility in Kushiro, Hokkaido, it has emerged that several other staff members have also been voluntarily questioned by police.

At Tsurugaoka Gakuen, a disability support facility in Kushiro, care worker Hiroki Abe was arrested on suspicion of assaulting two residents, while Kai Takahashi was arrested on suspicion of assaulting four residents.

Takahashi has admitted to assaulting one resident, but regarding the other three alleged victims, he reportedly told investigators: “It had become so routine that I can’t remember which incidents you are referring to.”

Subsequent reporting at the facility revealed that three additional staff members at Tsurugaoka Gakuen have also been voluntarily questioned by police.

Police are continuing to investigate the full extent of the alleged abuse, including by conducting a search of the facility.
