Parents of severely disabled children request Sendai City expand hospital beds and day care services

Sendai City – An organization made up of parents of severely physically and mentally disabled children receiving medical care at home has requested Sendai City to expand hospital beds and day care services.

An organization made up of parents of severely physically and mentally disabled children at home visited Aoba Ward Office in Sendai City on the 24th and handed in a request letter.

According to Sendai City, there are at least 636 severely physically and mentally disabled children and adults in the city who have severe physical disabilities and intellectual disabilities.

The request letter calls for an increase in short-term hospital beds for severely physically and mentally disabled children and adults who play an important role when their family members are unwell, and an expansion of day care services that they use on a daily basis.

“The reality is that we still have a long way to go to make improvements. We would like the facilities to be equipped and we can be sure that children can be admitted safely and with peace of mind.”

The city plans to continue with its efforts to provide more comprehensive support.
