HOKKAIDO – It was revealed on the 6th that staff at the “Seiryu no Sato’” support facility for persons with disabilities in the village of Nishikoppe in Hokkaido abused the residents, including leaving them naked. The village said it had confirmed 38 cases of physical and psychological abuse between May and June this year.
On the 4th of this month, the facility held an information session for the residents’ families, reported the abuse, and apologized. In the future, it is said that an “abuse verification committee” will be set up to consider measures to prevent recurrence.
“Seiryu no Sato” is operated by the social welfare corporation “Nishikoppe Welfare Association”. Currently, 27 men and 12 women with intellectual disabilities are residents.
