TOKYO – In order to make it easier for people with disabilities to obtain information about disasters and other situations, a non-partisan parliamentary group including the Liberal Democratic Party and the Constitutional Democratic Party has put together a bill that calls on the national and local governments to promote the necessary measures and aims to have it passed in the current Diet session.
In order to make it easier for people with disabilities to obtain information, issues have been pointed out, such as the difficulty of people with visual or hearing impairments to quickly grasp the occurrence of disasters, and the difficulty of people with intellectual disabilities to understand information displays in public facilities.
In response, a bipartisan parliamentary group including the Liberal Democratic Party and the Constitutional Democratic Party has put together a bill that calls for the national and local governments to promote necessary measures.
The bill aims to create a society in which people with disabilities have the same access to information as people without disabilities. It calls for subsidies for the development of devices that make it easier for people with disabilities to obtain information on disasters, crime prevention, etc., the development of a system for emergency calls to warn people of danger, and the enhancement of consultation systems and educational activities.
The Federation of Diet Members is calling on all parties to support the bill and aims to submit it to the current Diet session for passage.
