KANAGAWA Pref – Construction of a new facility for people with disabilities in Sagamihara City, where 19 people were killed on July 26th 2016 has begun.
The plan is to build the new facilities near the original location in Kanagawa Prefecture, near Yokohama City, where the former residents of the facility are living on a temporary basis.
The original building where the incident occurred was demolished and construction of the new facility began on January 29th.
The new facility will have a monument to commemorate the 19 victims, the details of which will be discussed in the future, including whether or not to name them.
“We would like to work steadily to restart the new Yamayuri Garden, aiming to become a model facility for a society where we can live together,” said Nobuo Yoshida, Deputy Manager of the Kanagawa Prefectural Disability Service Division.
Kanagawa prefecture aims to complete construction by April next year and wants to begin entering users around summer.
