KOBE – A 73-year-old man using an electric wheelchair at a railroad crossing of the Hankyu Kobe Line in Kobe City died on the 16th evening as a train hit him, police said that he was not able to cross the railroad crossing.
Hirokazu Mukai (73) who lived near the railway crossing of the Hankyu Kobe line of Naka-dori Nada ward, Kobe City, was hit by a regular train around 7:15 pm on the 16th.
Mr. Mukai was brought to the hospital, but death was confirmed soon after.
There were no injuries to the approximately 300 train passengers
According to the police, a man on the opposite side of the railroad crossing was found in front of an electric wheelchair, on the part of track where the barrier descends , which is located near two residential districts. Mr. Mukai had pressed the button on a railroad crossing, but could not make it.
The police are investigating the situation further as it is thought that Mukai would be unable to cross the railroad crossing with an electric wheelchair.
Due to the accident, the Hankyu Kobe Line stopped driving for nearly 2 hours around the site.
