Under the former eugenic protection law, three people were forced to undergo sterilization surgery, and these three people filed a lawsuit for damages on May 17th. It is the first time a lawsuit against the the former eugenic protection law has been filed. It is expected that these movements will spread nationwide in the future. The three are from Tokyo, Miyagi and Hokkaido prefecture.
According to the lawsuit, the three people are deprived of sterilization surgery under the former eugenic protection law due to their intellectual disability; and were deprived of the right to decide whether to have children guaranteed by the Constitution. They are seeking damages for the country from 11 million yen to 38.5 million yen.
