KANAGAWA – In the early hours of July 26, 2016, care home worker Satoshi Uematsu stabbed to death 19 residents and injured 26 others after breaking into the Tsukui Yamayuri-en facility in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture.
“My name is Yasuki Otsubo, and I am Kazuya Ono’s lead caregiver. Kazuya himself finds it difficult to write emails or communicate verbally, so I am writing on his behalf.
This year marks Kazuya’s sixth year living independently with the support of personal assistants after moving from an institution into a community apartment.
Recently, he has increasingly been invited to speak in a variety of settings: university lectures, policy study groups in the National Diet, and events hosted by disability organizations such as DPI and People First. He is also frequently invited to participate in online events and discussions.”
