Tokyo’s Three Bar Associations to Hold Symposium on Supporting Childbirth and Child-Rearing for People with Disabilities

TOKYO – The three bar associations in Tokyo will hold a symposium in August to examine childbirth and child-rearing by people with disabilities.

Although the Supreme Court ruled in 2024 that the former Eugenic Protection Law, which forced people with disabilities and others to undergo sterilization, was unconstitutional, support for people with disabilities who wish to have children and raise families remains inadequate. The symposium will explore what kinds of support are needed.

The event is jointly organized by the Tokyo Bar Association, the Dai-Ichi Tokyo Bar Association (First Tokyo Bar Association), and the Daini Tokyo Bar Association (Second Tokyo Bar Association).
