Princess Kiko and Princess Kako Visit Exhibition of Artists with Disabilities

On the morning of June 24th, Princess Kiko of Akishino and her second daughter, Princess Kako of Akishino, viewed an exhibition featuring works by artists with disabilities from around the world. The exhibition displays 62 selected works chosen from submissions by more than 1,300 artists from around the world. The two princesses viewed, among other pieces, a work by a Japanese artist who used ironing beads (fused beads) to depict memorable dishes from their life.

TOKYO – Princess Kiko of Akishino and her second daughter, Princess Kako of Akishino, viewed an exhibition featuring works by artists with disabilities from around the world.

On the morning of the 24th, Princess Kiko and Princess Kako visited an exhibition in Tokyo’s Chiyoda that showcases the talents of artists with disabilities and promotes appreciation of their work.

The exhibition displays 62 selected works chosen from submissions by more than 1,300 artists from around the world. The two princesses viewed, among other pieces, a work by a Japanese artist who used ironing beads (fused beads) to depict memorable dishes from their life.

Princess Kako remarked:

“It’s so colorful and wonderful.”

In front of a drawing created with colored pencils by an artist from the Netherlands, Princess Kiko examined the work closely and asked about the artist’s techniques. When told how many colors had been used, Princess Kako expressed surprise, saying:

“Eighty colors?”
