KANAGAWA – At a prefectural support facility for persons with disabilities in Nakai, Kanagawa Prefecture, it was found that staff members verbally abused and dragged users.
This was revealed at a press conference held by the prefectural government and the facility on March 31.
According to the report, in February this year, a male staff member in his 50s at Nakai Yamayurien, a prefectural support facility for persons with disabilities located in Nakai Town, verbally abused a user in his 30s who was trying to go to the bathroom next to his dormitory, saying “Stop marking.”
Later, the male staff member, together with other staff members, dragged the user to a deaf area outside the dormitory, where the user’s clothes were slipped off, but they left it alone.
As a result of the investigation, these acts were found to constitute physical and psychological abuse.
The facility will submit an improvement plan to the local government.
The two staff members who verbally abused the residents explained to the investigation that they “felt that they should not use the restrooms in the other dormitory.
The prefectural government and the facility apologized, saying, “As a facility where people with disabilities spend their time safely and securely, this should never happen, and we will do our utmost to prevent a recurrence. We will do our utmost to prevent a recurrence. We apologize for the incident.”
