Sendai City, Miyagi Pref – The “Miyagi Appeal Action” rally was held in Sendai City on the 16th to raise awareness of the discrimination and difficulties facing people with disabilities.
This is held annually by an executive committee made up of over 40 disability groups in Miyagi Prefecture.
This year, in response to the Noto Peninsula earthquake, the theme was “Disability and Disaster Prevention,” and an appeal was adopted calling on the government to develop disaster prevention and evacuation plans that reflect the perspectives of people with disabilities.

Miyagi Appeal Action Executive Committee Member Takahashi Yuki said to Nippon News Network:
“It is necessary to share the situation and necessary support for people, including people with disabilities and the elderly, with the individuals themselves, the government, and the community, and to provide more support and measures.”
In addition, it was reported that the current situation in the areas affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake is that some disability support offices have stopped operating due to a shortage of staff.
After the rally, the participants walked through the center of Sendai, calling for the guarantee of the rights of people with disabilities and for a world free of discrimination and prejudice.
