Yokohama City Recognizes Two Cases of Abuse at Facilities for Persons with Disabilities

Two cases of abuse at a facility for persons with disabilities in Hodogaya-ku, Yokohama City, where staff members kicked users in the knees, have been recognized by the city as abuse of persons with disabilities, and the city has instructed the facilities to prevent recurrence.

YOKOHAMA – Two cases of abuse at a facility for persons with disabilities in Hodogaya-ku, Yokohama City, where staff members kicked users in the knees, have been recognized by the city as abuse of persons with disabilities, and the city has instructed the facilities to prevent recurrence.

The abuse was recognized at two facilities for the disabled operated by the social welfare corporation “Doai-kai” in Hodogaya-ku, Yokohama City. 

In the first case, in November 2022, when a user tried to attack a staff member, the staff member knocked the user down and held him by the neck. 

In the second incident, in August of this year, at a different facility, a user tried to break a cardboard box, and a staff member knocked the user down, mounted him, and when he got up, kicked him in the knee. 

The city recognized the two incidents as abuse of persons with disabilities, and provided on-site guidance to prevent recurrence.
