TOKYO – The new Tokaido Shinkansen, which will run from the 20th, will have four more seats for wheelchairs, for a total of six seats.
According to JR Tokai, one train will run from April 20th, but they plan to increase the number of trains to 13 by the end of this year.
JR East is also planning to operate the Hokuriku Shinkansen from July with four more wheelchair seats.
The national standard for wheelchair space on the Shinkansen has been revised to provide between three and six seats per train, depending on the number of passengers, and will come into effect in July.
