How to be a Para Cast member

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony will be staged to include active performers and those who have some kind of restriction in their daily lives and impairments.

People with impairments will be particularly welcome to apply for individual selection. Groups which include at least one member with an impairment are eligible to apply for group selection.

The degree and type of impairment will have no influence on the selection process, nor will possession of any impairment certification.

Applicants must fulfil the following requirements:

  • They must be able to communicate in Japanese themselves or through a guardian or companion, owing to the need to communicate with ceremony directors; (in the case of groups, it will be acceptable if at least one of the group can understand and speak Japanese)
  • They must be Japanese nationals or non-Japanese with valid visas permitting residence in Japan during the whole period between January 2020 and 6 September 2020.

Contact to the administration office either by email or phone needs to be conducted in Japanese. If you are not able to speak or write in Japanese, please ask somebody who can for assistance.

The planned selection schedule is as follows; we will announce detailed dates and venues to participants individually as soon as they are decided.
