KYOTO -The Kyoto Animation Co. arson attack suspect has recovered enough to be able to answer questions, investigative sources said Wednesday.
The July 18 attack on a studio of the anime powerhouse, known as KyoAni, in Kyoto Prefecture, western Japan, claimed the lives of 35 people and injured many others.
The suspect, aged 41, himself suffered severe burns in the incident. He has undergone skin graft surgery at a hospital in Osaka Prefecture, next to Kyoto.
The suspect has improved from a critical condition and is now able to answer questions when an artificial respirator is removed, the sources said, adding that he can now start therapy for holding conversations.
The suspect still remains in an intensive care unit and is expected to undergo another operation, according to the sources.
