In a summary released by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of persons with disabilities who were abused in families and workplaces, etc., was the highest it’s ever been, with 3,500 people abused nationwide last year.
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the number of persons with disabilities who received abuse dealt with by local governments last year increased by more than 300 people compared to the previous year to 3544 people nationwide, the largest number since the fiscal year 2012 .
The breakdown of who received abuse was 1570 people, including family members, the most, followed by 1308 employees and management at the workplace and 666 employees of the facility.
Looking at the details of the abuse from families, etc. in multiple answers, “physical abuse” such as kicking to beat the most is 61%, followed by “psychological abuse” such as abuse, 33% “Economic abuse” not to give pensions is 23% and so on.
There was also one case where the victim died, and in the Chiba prefecture a man in his 40’s died due to abuse from siblings. Also, nearly half of the abuses from families and others did not recognize that perpetrators would abuse their own acts.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare stated that “There are many reports from the police and notification from the facility, so we are progressing efforts to discover it at an early stage, and we will prevent abuses through training for stakeholders.”
