Some people with disabilities who use wheelchairs find ‘wheelchair-bound’ to be offensive and prefer the term ‘wheelchair user’. Barrier Free Japan sometimes gets comments and posts on social media about this issue.

On April 27th Kobe City started to literally ‘fly the flag’ – put out flags in Kobe City – heralding the Kobe 2024 Para Athletics World Championships to be held from May 17th – May 25th.
An event titled ‘PARAgrressive Day’ was held in various locations in Kobe. Barrier Free Japan made some videos!
As of the evening of April 28th 2024, Hirotada Ototake is set to lose the by-election for a House of Representatives seat. On April 23rd it was reported that someone was arrested for attacking a staffer working for Ototake.

Postponed Due to COVID, the Kobe 2024 ‘World Para Athletics Championships’ Begins a Countdown to the Games

The World Para Athletics Championships is the world’s premier para athletics event established by the International Paralympic Committee. The first conference was held in Berlin, Germany in 1994, and since the fifth conference in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2011.

The Kobe Games were scheduled to be held in 2021, but were forced to be postponed twice due to the global pandemic of the new coronavirus.
