TOKYO – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on December 1st that it will hold its annual ‘Disability Week’ from December 3rd to 9th. The aim of ‘Disability Week’ is to deepen public interest and understanding of disability welfare and to encourage people with disabilities to actively participate in all areas of social, economic, and cultural activities.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government and local municipalities, conduct various awareness campaigns, exhibitions, such as artwork by people with disabilities, special events, and provide targeted support services.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government typically runs a specific service during Disability Week to offer professional advice:
Special consultations by phone and other means regarding law and welfare (法律・福祉に関する電話等特別相談).
Lawyers and other experts provide specialized advice on welfare systems, legal issues, human rights, and other concerns related to disability. These services are often free of charge.
The lawyers will be available for consultations December 3rd to 9th (except on the 8th), usually running from 10:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 17:00.
