Indian, South Korean Shooters Claim Early Golds at Tokyo Deaflympics

TOKYO – India’s Dhanush Srikanth and South Korea’s Jeong Suk-hwa captured gold medals in shooting events at the Tokyo 2025 Summer Deaflympics, with Srikanth setting a new world record, according to media reports including The Times of India and the Chosun Ilbo.

Srikanth won the men’s 10-meter air rifle competition, opening India’s medal tally with a record-breaking performance that further establishes him as one of the country’s most promising young shooters. The victory adds to his growing international profile following earlier successes in deaf-sport and mainstream youth competitions.

In the women’s 10-meter air rifle event, Jeong secured South Korea’s first gold medal of the Games. Her win was widely welcomed at home, where the achievement is seen as a milestone for the nation’s Deaf sports program.
