Tokyo Lawyers Offer Free Telephone Consultation “Human Rights for Disabled Persons 110” in ‘Disabled Persons Week’

TOKYO – To coincide with Disabled Persons Week, which started on the 3rd of this month, the “Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities 110 Hotline” is being held, where lawyers provide free consultations from people with disabilities and their families.

Every year, the three bar associations in Tokyo hold consultation sessions during Disability Week, where lawyers provide free consultation to people with disabilities and their families by phone or fax.

In the morning, we received a consultation about a person who is visually impaired and is constantly receiving abusive language from his boss, and the lawyer said, “There is also a way to have a lawyer present and have a discussion with your boss.Ultimately, the problem should be resolved in court.” I can do that too,” he replied.

Starting from April next year, the Act to Eliminate Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities will be revised to require private businesses to provide “reasonable accommodation” when a person with a disability requests support.

For this reason, the consultation meeting also responds to consultations from businesses, such as “how should we respond to people with disabilities?”
