KANAGAWA – At the Kanagawa Prefectural Assembly on September 12, Governor Kuroiwa announced his intention to transfer three of the prefectural support facilities for people with disabilities to the private sector.
The three facilities being considered are Hasagami Ryokufuen, Atsugi Seikaen, and Miura Shiratorien.
In response to a question from a member of parliament, Governor Kuroiwa said, “Scientific research and human resource development related to welfare are unprofitable and difficult to implement in private facilities.” “We are proceeding with the arrangement with the aim of continuing to operate the facility as a prefectural facility, and transferring the rest to the private sector.”
Among the prefectural facilities, Nakai Yamayuri Garden will continue, and the future direction of Serigaya Yamayuri Garden and Tsukui Yamayuri Garden will be considered based on the operational status.
In addition, while Aina Yamayuri Garden is expected to play a role as a prefectural facility, the building is aging, so redevelopment will be considered.
The prefecture plans to compile a “direction vision” by the end of 2023, which will indicate the ideal state of prefectural support facilities for people with disabilities.
