JAPAN – After the results of a prefectural government’s Internet survey revealed that 35.3% of Chiba residents answered that they “felt” human rights violations against the disabled, it might be interesting to to review the other recent reports of alleged abuse against Chiba residents with disabilities.

35% of Chiba residents with disabilities “felt” human rights violations
The results of the prefectural government’s Internet survey revealed that 35.3% of Chiba residents answered that they “felt” human rights violations against the disabled, and more than one out of three people believe that there are human rights violations. 17.3% answered that they “felt” human rights violations against LGBT and other sexual minorities.

At around 10:05 pm on the 8th, a 20-year-old female resident at a facility for people with disabilities in Sotominowa, Kimitsu City, called 110 to report that she had gone missing. The woman has an intellectual disability, and the Kimitsu police station is investigating her whereabouts and appealing for information.
According to the police station, the woman lived in a private room on the first floor. Around 9 p.m. on the same day, staff confirmed the woman was in the room. When the staff went round at 10:00, she was gone. A locked window had been opened, and she is believed to have exited through this window. The woman can go shopping or take a train by herself, and can answer her name, address and date of birth.

20 year old resident of Chiba care facility for the disabled missing since October 16th
At around 8:35 a.m. on the 16th, the Kisarazu Prefectural Police received a report from a welfare facility for the disabled in Kisarazu that a resident, Ayato Takebata, 20, had “disappeared from her room.” It was confirmed that Takebata left the facility alone in the early hours of the 16th.
