OKINAWA – A former male student who was bullied by his classmates at a junior high school attached to Okinawa Shogaku High School has begun a lawsuit seeking damages from the school for failing to take the necessary measures to prevent bullying.
The lawsuit was brought by a man who was a student at a junior high school attached to Okinawa Shogaku High School in Naha City.
The man claims that from around July to October 2017, when he was in his first year of junior high school, he was bullied by six students in the same class, resulting in an adjustment disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, forcing him to change schools.
The man is seeking approximately 12 million yen in damages from the school, claiming that the school did not take the necessary measures to prevent the bullying.
At the trial, which began on 22 November at the Naha District Court, the school insisted in writing that the case be dismissed and showed its willingness to fight with plaintiff.
