TOKYO – On November 5th, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare announced a policy to establish a new type of group home (GH) where people with disabilities live together with support in a building like an apartment for those who want to live alone or live with their partner.

It is hoped it will be introduced it in 2024, but at the council’s subcommittee held on the same day, the committee members raised concerns about the proposal to set an expiration date, and we decided to continue to consider it.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s proposal, when a person with a disability wants to move into GH, he / she wants to live alone in the future, or confirms his / her intention to continue moving into conventional GH.

The new GH will carry out training necessary for independent living, such as money management and housework. We will support you even after you move out.
