TOKYO – An average of about 100 people a day… This is the number of people who use wheelchair seats on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
There are spaces for wheelchair users on the Shinkansen, but currently there is only one space per train. Is it because there are fewer people using them, so there are fewer spaces? Or is it because it is inconvenient for people in wheelchairs to ride the Shinkansen?
The government, finding it inconvenient, announced on March 3 that it would review the national guidelines to strengthen barrier-free measures for the bullet train.
