FUKUOKA – The Abilympics Fukuoka 2026, a competition in which people with disabilities demonstrate and compete in vocational skills they have developed through their work and daily employment, was held in Kasuga, Fukuoka Prefecture, on July 11.
The Abilympics are organized to help working people with disabilities improve their skills while also promoting greater understanding of the employment of people with disabilities.
The competition featured a total of 11 events, ranging from keyboard typing contests that tested speed and accuracy to cardboard box assembly and customer service in a café setting.
Participant:
“I was nervous, but I did my best. I think I was able to smile, greet people, and serve customers politely.”
Hirotada Masaki, Chair of the Organizing Committee:
“I was deeply moved by how hard everyone worked. I think that came across to the spectators as well. I hope that, in the future, we’ll be able to work alongside one another in the same workplace.”
Competitors who achieved outstanding results qualified to compete at the National Abilympics, which will be held in Aichi Prefecture this December.
