SAGA – Ahead of the National Sports Festival for the Disabled, a seminar was held in Saga City for police officers to learn how to provide necessary support to people with disabilities.

The National Sports Festival for the Disabled will be held in Saga Prefecture from the 26th to the 28th of this month.

A seminar was held at the Prefectural Police Headquarters in Saga City on the 18th ahead of the festival, and about 70 people participated, including senior officials of the Saga Prefectural Police Headquarters and police station chiefs.

A lecture was given by a staff member of the prefecture’s Disability Welfare Division, who spoke with the keywords “reasonable accommodation” and “constructive dialogue.”

“Reasonable accommodation” is taking the necessary measures to ensure that people with and without disabilities have the same opportunities.

“Constructive dialogue” is sharing specific ideas about what can and cannot be done.

A prefectural official explained that “reasonable accommodation” and “constructive dialogue” lead to the necessary support.

Lecturer Kamiyo Kimie of the Saga Prefecture Disability Welfare Division said, “I hope that this will lead to hospitality that will make as many people as possible feel glad that they came to Saga.”

Assistant Chief Koike Sadayuki of the Prefectural Police Headquarters Guard and Security Countermeasures Division said, “I hope that we can spread what we learned in the field and provide support that will make everyone glad that they came.”
