Tokyo Metropolitan Government Increases Consultations for Developmental Disabilities Support, Offering On-site Consultations in Tama Area

TOKYO – In response to an increase in the number of consultations with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s office on developmental disabilities, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s support center will begin offering on-site consultations in the Tama region this month (May 2024).

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has established the “Tokyo Metropolitan Support Center for Persons with Developmental Disabilities” in Setagaya Ward to provide consultation services for persons with developmental disabilities and their families in Tokyo, both by phone and in person.

The number of consultations in the last fiscal year totaled more than 2,200, a 20% increase over the previous year, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has decided to start offering consultations in the Tama region this month in response to growing needs.

The consultation service is available at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s general office near JR Hachioji Station in Hachioji City, and is free of charge once a month on a set date for those 18 years of age or older and those under 18 years of age.

This month, there are 17 days for those under 18 and 31 days for those 18 and older, and up to three groups per day can be consulted if reservations are made by phone or e-mail by 3:00 p.m. on the day before the on-site consultation is scheduled.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government representative says, “We hope that people in the Tama area will feel free to consult with us if they have any concerns about developmental disabilities.
