Para-Aquathlon Event held in Tottori On Sports Day

The "16th All Japan Challenged Aquathlon Kaike Tournament,'' where people with disabilities take on swimming and running, was held on October 9th in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, which is considered the birthplace of triathlon in Japan. Approximately 80 people aged 6 to 78 from within and outside the prefecture worked hard to reach the goal with the help of approximately 290 volunteers.

Yonago City, Tottori Pref– The “16th All Japan Challenged Aquathlon Kaike Tournament,” where people with disabilities take on swimming and running, was held on October 9th in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, which is considered the birthplace of triathlon in Japan. Approximately 80 people aged 6 to 78 from within and outside the prefecture worked hard to reach the goal with the help of approximately 290 volunteers.

People in wheelchairs and people with intellectual disabilities took on the challenge of swimming 25 to 100 meters and running 500 to 5,000 meters, depending on their level of disability and physical strength. Mitsuaki Kadaki (71), who is visually impaired, swam 25 meters and completed the 500 meters. “I could really hear the cheers. I’m glad I was able to finish the run while being guided by a companion runner,” he said, wiping away his sweat.
