TOKYO – A project to produce an original beer is helping former cancer patients connect with fellow survivors and reaffirm the joy of being alive.
Members of the initiative hope to create a sample by next month and release the beer commercially in August.
In the project, involving cancer survivors and Cancer Survivors Recruiting Project, an organization to help former cancer patients find employment, around 70 participants discussed beer flavors and packaging over three online sessions.
During the discussions, cancer survivors voiced their hopes for the concept of the beer, saying that through the product, they want to “represent a sense of liberation after overcoming harsh medical treatment,” “share the joy and happiness of living” and “make a toast to departed friends.”
After making trial products, the group settled on creating a slightly bitter beer with a refreshing aftertaste and aroma.
