The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has decided upon a policy to pay a employment adjustment fee for persons with disabilities, paid to companies when employing persons with disabilities who are currently working more than 20 hours a week even for short-time work less than 20 hours a week. As the number of people with mental disorders increases, it aims to boost employment of people who have difficult symptoms for a long time. From the end of this month, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will begin having meetings with experts to examine concrete subsidy plans.
About 496,000 people with disabilities employed in private companies last year increased by 30% over the five years from 2012. Under the existing system, only when employing persons with disabilities who work more than 20 hours per week, companies are paid over 50,000 yen per month for the maximum month.
Meanwhile, patients with mental disorders such as depression and schizophrenia are increasing year by year, increasing from about 570,000 in 11 years to 840,000 in 16 years. According to Ministry of Health, Ministry of Persons with mental disorder is said to have many people who are stressed for long hours of work, and the proportion of short-time workers among all workers with mental disorders has increased from 0% to 6% and currently stands at 4.2% in 13 years.
